DC solid state relay
Written by eltunene

I have been improving the efficiency of my solar energy system, and the relay I used to control the charge started malfunctioning due to the frequent ons and offs, so I built a solid state relay, which works just fine. No noise, no moving parts, no limited life. It has only two components. You can download the schematic for free at DC Solid State Relay

Solar NanoPaint
Written by Tecknomancer

This clip is from the 2007 WGBH Boston NOVA PBS program, "Solar Energy: Saved By the Sun" which documents how solar energy is being used around the world in addition to the future of solar energy technology. The introduction of nanotechnology in solar energy production will dramatically lower cost and increase efficiency. As I talk about in my books, imagine a world where cars, houses, buildings, streets, signs, billboards, airplanes, and virtually everything else is painted with energy-collecting solar nano-paint. It is all very exciting, and could very well prove a viable alternative to finite fossil fuels.

Nicole Kuepper, a 23-year-old PhD student from UNSW's School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering, has developed photovoltaic (solar) technology involving a simple inkjet printing process. The work could bring electricity to 2 billion of the world's poorest people - and has already two prestigious Eureka Prizes for Nicole.
